Frequently Asked Questions
What exactly is Disciple Culture and what does Disciple Culture do?Disciple Culture is a ministry dedicated to cultivating, activating, and replicating cultures of discipleship within bodies of Christ followers.
Does Disciple Culture require a membership or is this an exclusive club? There is no formal membership, though groups are being formed for communication, cultivation, activation, replication, and tracking. However, yes, the club is exclusive, in that it is only for ALL believers who have understood and submitted to Jesus’ teachings on what it takes to be a disciple (John 8:31) and his Great Commission. What are the expectations of me joining DC?The expectation is to be a disciple and a disciple maker. DC exists for Gospel centered believers who walk in repentance and the daily surrender of denying flesh, taking up cross, and following Jesus. Yes seeking to obey Christ, but obeying Christ's command to teach others to obey everything He has commanded. Believers endeavoring to live a life of integrity for the Lord, leaning on the Holy Spirit for guidance, who spend time alone with Him daily in Word, prayer and worship. Acts Ch 2 is a great model for us all to aspire toward. Do you provide training? First, the Lord has provided each believer with everything for life and godliness in Him. Our mission is to encourage believers to use their unique gifts not just obediently but fervently to lift the body toward maturity. We do provide an ever-growing resource library full of quality discipleship tools at www.discipleculture.orgAdditionally, We, plan to serve training in person and online in the future. Do I have to commit to being at meetings? If so, how often? There is no formal commitment. However, there will be meetings sometimes larger and sometimes smaller periodically. These meetings are held to encourage, activate, inspire, and educate, so we do strongly recommend attendance whenever possible. Are there specific things I am allowed to teach or not teach?A disciple maker should teach the biblical disciplines of Word, worship and prayer. Keep away from teaching the empty philosophies of man (Col 2:8.) If a disciple maker has a study or book, aside from the Bible, that he wishes to use as a discipleship aid, it would be wise to run it by a spiritual authority for approval. Your pastor, discipler or a leader in your Disciple Culture group are all great resources. We recommend, and will continue to add to, a set of strong biblically based studies, books, and sermons for everyone to dive into. When we are being called to disciple by Jesus Himself why is there a need for a discipleship ministry? It's true Jesus did call us all to be disciples who make disciples. We believe that what has been lacking in the capital "C" church is a cultural environment where cultivating, activating, and replicating disciples exists. A properly functioning body (Eph 4:16) is our failing to disciple EVERYONE who is willing into maturity in the faith. Disciple Culture is calling the bride of Christ into unity in the Great Commission (Matthew 28:16-20) which will lead us all into living out the Greatest Commandment (Matt 22:26-40)Are you going to match me up with those needing discipled or do I find my own disciples?Well, It's both and... DC can and will play matchmaker, and at times that may work best. We prefer that as people continue to give their "yes" to Jesus as disciples and disciple makers that they will prayerfully seek the Lord for guidance. We firmly believe that this is Holy Spirit business, and He will do the aligning of His saints. What program do we follow? THIS IS NOT A PROGRAM!!!! Of course, we are willing to help in any way possible. We trust that when the Holy Spirit calls you to a specific person or group to lead that He will make a way. DC exists to lift, encourage, and walk with believers. We will be here to help and guide, this isn't about a checklist or systematic process. This is about obediently following the lead of the Holy Spirit! Can I only have disciples through my church or DC group? Absolutely not, Jesus called us to go to the ends of the earth.
The Frame Work
- Disciple Culture Framework
- - Entry Point: We must make sure we are ushering disciples in through the “right door”.
- It’s a low door: You’ve got to get low to get in.
- It’s not a wide door either. It’s a narrow one.
- - This low narrow door:
- requires an understanding of “The Cost of Discipleship” (Dietrich Bonhoeffer book).
- Is not for the come and see crowd
- Is for those called to and ready to submit to an intimate life with Christ.
- Is for those who give God their Yes and Amen
- - Focus: it is imperative that our foundational focus is directionally accurate
- We start with teaching Supremacy, the supremacy of Christ
- A proper understanding of His supremacy is the groundwork towards intimacy.
- Intimacy in Christ leads to repentance; in turn, repentance leads to greater intimacy.
- Properly understanding and pursuing these principles sets the framework for maturity.
- - Foundational Scriptures: (we must grasp and cling to these passages)
- Matthew 28:18-20
- Matthew 16:24, Mark 8:34, Luke 9:23, John 12:24
- - A disciple must be able to answer these questions from a Bilical World View.
- What does it mean to deny self?
- What does it mean to pick up your cross?
- What does it mean to follow Him?
- *** THIS IS NOT A RACE OR A CONTEST to count how many men, women, and children “we” can aggregate into our plan ***
- *** THIS IS WARFARE AND WE ARE WARRIORS. The business we are about is the raising up of MATURE WARRIORS into FIGHTERS who are going to engage the darkness with the Light of God! ***
